The Unknown

The unknown is a wolf:
Tongue lolling,
Tail bristling,
Teeth gleaming.

Children, intuitive,
Can see the danger,
Cowering under safe, familiar
Covers at night.

Adults, conversely,
Are complacent.
"All's well," the sentry says,
As the wolf leaps at his throat.
